Arc desk lamp

One object. Its materials, making and next chapter.

Fictional product and manufacturing data, created to illustrate a richer passport. Care and repair content is an example, not a manual for a real electrical product.

  1. Form the metal parts

The shade is spun from aluminium sheet; the base shell is pressed and the steel stem is bent to shape.

  2. Prepare and coat

Metal surfaces are cleaned and powder coated in terracotta. Threaded mounting points are kept clear of the coating.

  3. Fit the light assembly

A separately sourced LED board, diffuser and low-voltage connector form the replaceable light assembly.

  4. Assemble and identify

Threaded fasteners join the shade, stem and base. The cable is routed with strain relief; the batch and serial labels are added.

  5. Check the finished unit

The example inspection plan covers visible finish, stability, cable routing and a functional light check. Inspection evidence is not attached to this fictional record.

  6. Pack for transport

The lamp is placed in a corrugated carton with moulded paper inserts. The example packaging mass is 220 g, separate from the product mass.

4 A little care, over time

Clean with a dry cloth. Disconnect power before replacing parts.

  1. Before cleaning

Switch the lamp off, unplug the external adapter from the wall and let the light assembly cool before handling it.

  2. Weekly surface care

Remove dust from the shade, stem and base with a soft, dry cloth. Support the lamp by the base rather than pulling on the shade.

  3. Marks and spills

For the example coated body, use a slightly damp cloth, then dry the surface. Keep moisture away from the light assembly, switch and connectors.

  4. Protect the finish

Avoid abrasive pads, solvents and cleaning sprays applied directly to the lamp. Keep the lamp indoors on a stable, dry surface.

  5. Check condition

Periodically inspect the visible cable, adapter and fasteners. Stop using a real lamp if there is damage, unusual heat, a smell or intermittent light, and seek qualified advice.

5 Repair, with a record

The light module and cable are designed to be replaceable.

Fictional repair workflow for this sample only. It is not a service manual for a real electrical product. For a real lamp, follow its manufacturer-approved instructions and use a qualified repairer. Never open a sealed mains adapter.

  1. Identify and isolate

Record the model, serial and symptom. Disconnect the external adapter from the wall and the lamp; allow the assembly to cool.

  2. Inspect before disassembly

A qualified repairer checks visible connectors, cable condition and mounting points before deciding which component requires replacement.

  3. Access the light assembly

In the fictional design, removable screws retain the diffuser and light module. Support the shade and record the order of removed parts.

  4. Replace the matching component

Use the specified module and connector for the product revision. For this sample the module reference is ARC-LM-06; the external adapter is a complete sealed replacement assembly.

  5. Reassemble and check

Restore the diffuser, fasteners and cable routing. A qualified repairer completes the appropriate safety and functional checks for the actual product before it returns to use.

  6. Record the repair

Keep the part reference, date, repairer and result with the product record. Send removed electronics to an appropriate collection point.

6 Give the materials a next chapter

Separate electrical components from the aluminium body for recycling.

  1. Keep it in use first

If the product still works, consider continued use, donation or resale. If it has a fault, obtain a repair assessment before deciding to discard it.

  2. Use the electrical collection route

For a real lamp, follow local electrical-equipment collection rules. Keep the lamp and adapter out of household mixed waste; check your local collection point or retailer take-back scheme.

  3. Separate at an appropriate facility

The fictional design uses removable fasteners to separate the metal body, stem and light assembly. Disassembly for material recovery belongs with an appropriate repair or recovery facility.

  4. Sort components and packaging

Keep electronics and insulated power parts in the electrical collection stream. Sort clean cardboard and paper inserts according to local rules. Ask the facility about coated metals and silicone pads.
